Martin Truex Jr. is 40/1 to win at Las Vegas |
He finished sixth in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, his second consecutive top-10 finish to start the season. He took eighth in the season-opening Daytona 500 on Feb. 22.
On Sunday, he twice narrowly avoided a multi-car wreck on lap 259 on the 1.54-mile layout.
"It's a game of inches, and sometimes it goes in your favor and sometimes not," Truex said in a statement from his team, Furniture Row Racing. "Today it went our way when that crash happened. We had a really good car on the long runs, and on every restart it just seemed like we kept getting in the wrong lane.
"We had guys wrecking in front of us and getting loose in front of us and spinning their tires. We had to pass a lot of cars all day. It seemed like it was the same guys all day long."
Through two of the season's 36 races, Truex Jr. is fifth in the driver standings, the highest position for a Furniture Row Racing driver in the 10-year history of the Denver-based team.
