Playing the Odds: Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) has a total of 33 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) starts, with 11 different drivers, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS). The team has totaled 10 top-10 and four top-five finishes, including a victory 13 years ago with driver Sterling Marlin. Atlanta Results: Race No. 2, The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, on the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) season was held at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS). Jamie McMurray, driving the McDonald’s Chevrolet SS, was working on closing-out a strong run, when he was collected in an accident on lap 256 that took him out of competition and him relegated to a 40th place finish.
McMurray at Las Vegas: McMurray will make his 13th NSCS career start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. In 12 previous starts he has four top-10 and one top-five finish. McMurray has finished on the lead lap in eight of those 12 races and has completed 3,205 of 3,225 (99.4%) of competition. He has never had a did not finish (DNF) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway along with an average start of 20.7 and average finish of 17.9, his best start and finish came in 2004 when he started and finished in fourth-place.
Vegas Riot: The award winning Country music group Rascal Flatts, who released their ninth studio album in May 2014, that includes the hit single Riot, will be singing the National Anthem prior to the start of the Kobalt 400. The group will also have their name on the No. 1 Cessna Chevy SS this weekend at LVMS. Rascal Flatts is in the middle of a three week residency at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino where they will play several shows from Feb. 25 – Mar. 14 at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The award winning group is the first country music act to ever headline at The Joint.
Kyle Larson and No. 42 Target Team
Atlanta Results: In the first race of the year with the new rules package in place, the weekend started off positively for Kyle Larson and the Target team in the No. 42 Energizer EcoAdvanced Chevy. However, several mistakes during the race, a mechanical issue and a late-race incident resulted in a 26th place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS).
Larson at Las Vegas: Larson has only one previous start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the NSCS, which came in last year’s Kobalt Tools 400. Larson qualified for that race in 17th position, and had the fourth-most green flag passes, with 76, on his was to finishing one lap down in 19th position.
Owning It: In addition to being in Las Vegas as a competitor this week, Larson will also be there as an owner. Larson Marks Racing, a World of Outlaws sprint car team partially owned by Larson, will be competing at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Wednesday and Thursday, with Shane Stewart driving the No. 2 car. The team already has one win this season, which came in January with Larson behind the wheel at the Winter Heat Showdown at Cocopah Speedway in Arizona.
