Allmendinger Gets First Career Pole at Phoenix

AJ Allmedinger scored his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole in qualifying for Saturday's Subway Fresh Fit 600 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Allmendinger put Richard Petty's famous No. 43 on the pole - the first time since 1999 when John Andretti turned the trick at Phoenix - with a lap of 134.675 mph.

Scott Speed equaled his career best start after he qualified second for the fourth time in 47 starts with a lap of 134.373 mph.

Sam Hornish Jr. continued a strong qualifying effort for former open wheel drivers after he grabbed a career best start of third.

Marcos Ambrose and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounded out the top five.
