Kyle Larson breaks through at Michigan with first career win

Kyle Larson was 15/1 to win at Michigan.
BROOKLYN, Mich. – Kyle Larson could have been forgiven for thinking Sunday was all about him.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver had just won his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup race on a hot and humid day at Michigan International Speedway.

Larson did the donut burnout that NASCAR drivers all do these days.

He grabbed the checkered flag from the finish line tower and waved it from his No. 42 Target Chevrolet.

He made a spectacular sliding entrance into victory lane to the ovation of fans and crew and fellow drivers.

It could have been declared Kyle Larson Day in the Irish Hills as he placed himself in the hunt for this year’s Sprint Cup championship.

But on Larson’s mind more than anything else was his friend Bryan Clauson, who died in a midget car race this month in Kansas.
