Jimmie Johnson fastest in first Phoenix practice session

Jeff Gordon had the best 10-consecutive lap average in first practice.

Jimmie Johnson posted the fastest lap in Friday’s practice with a lap of 141.827 mph. He was followed by Kyle Larson, whose top lap was 141.783 mph.

Kurt Busch was third – and fastest among the seven title contenders vying for the final three spots in next weekend’s championship round in Miami – with a lap of 141.571 mph.
