Race 3 of the 2023 NASCAR Cup season takes us to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Pennzoil 400. Here's a look at what I'm thinking for Sunday using odds courtesy of Caesars sportsbooks. For the full write-up of my Top-20 driver predictions visit Sportsline.com.
#18 Kyle Busch (6/1) - He got his first RCR win out of the way last week at Fontana and he’s coming home to Vegas where he has just one 2009 win at in 23 Cup starts. And the car he’s driving was seventh in last season's spring race at Vegas and sixth in the fall driven by Tyler Reddick who led 32 laps.
#22 Joey Logano (8/1) - He has three wins, seven top-fives, and 12 top-10’s at LVMS and is the active leader with an 8.5 average finish.
#99 Daniel Suarez (25/1) - The last time he was at LVMS he led 31 laps and finished third in the first two stages and dropped to 16th.
#5 Kyle Larson (6/1) - This is a great track for him, but the issue last week at Fontana is the thing to worry about. If he doesn’t wreck or have gremlins, he likely wins.
#1 Ross Chastain (8/1) - At the Vegas spring race last season he led the most laps (83) and finished third and in the fall race he was runner-up and led the most laps led (68).
#11 Denny Hamlin (10/1) - He was fifth last fall and won in the fall of 2021 for his first Vegas win.
#4 Kevin Harvick (15/1) - He’s a two-time winner at LVMS with 13 top-10s in 27 starts for a 13.7 average finish. His 679 laps led are the most among active drivers.
#43 Erik Jones (50/1) - In 11 Cup starts at LVMS he has four top-10s and a 19.8 average finish. He also won a Truck race at LVMS in 2014.
#10 Aric Almirola (100/1) - He was sixth in this race last season and sixth in the fall of 2018, his first season with SHR. Sleeper.
#9 Chase Elliott (11/1) - He’s hit or miss at LVMS with five top-10s, three top-fives, and 178 laps led. He’s been 21st or worse in half of his starts.
