As usual, Jimmie Johnson’s win Sunday at Martinsville did not go over well with fans, many of whom lashed out at the five-time Cup champion on Twitter.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans were particularly incensed that Johnson did not let Junior in front of him during a late caution flag. Earnhardt spun late in the race and as he tried to get his car going after the wreck, Johnson, the leader, passed him under caution, putting Earnhardt a lap down. Many felt that Johnson should have let Earnhardt, his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, in front of him to stay on the lead lap.
Had Johnson slowed down to let Earnhardt in front of him, he could have been penalized for not keeping up with the pace car.
After the spin, which was caused by contact between Danica Patrick and Brian Vickers, Earnhardt wound up two laps down in 24th.
But mostly, anti-Johnson fans are upset that Johnson won for the second time this year and for the eighth time at Martinsville.
Johnson had a rather terse, sarcastic response to all those “haters” on Twitter.
