Busch drove his Joe Gibbs Racing car to a track-record lap of 14.813 seconds for a speed of 129.535 mph around the 0.533-mile concrete oval.
Ryan Newman had the previous track record at 128.709, set in March 2003.
The pole was the first at Bristol for Busch, who has five Cup wins at the track but a best starting spot of ninth.
