Junior has track best 9.8 average finish in last 20 Bristol races |
While he has had finishes between 11th and 16th in his last five Bristol races and between seventh and 10th in his last nine, Earnhardt still is optimistic about the Food City 500 on Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway.
He has had fast cars this year, and he’s ready to use his bumper, if necessary. While the cars have changed over the years — with a new one debuting this season — the bumper still allows any driver to make a pass at Bristol, Earnhardt said prior to practice Friday.
“The bump-and-run, you were going to use that no matter what kind of bumper you had on there,” Earnhardt said.
“It don’t matter what kind of bumper is on there, you’re still going to try to get the guy out of the way. … The bump-and-run really never left. It’s just whether you can reach the guy on the last lap to be able to have an opportunity to get to his bumper.”
