Kenseth at Kansas Speedway
· Matt Kenseth will make his 25th start at Kansas this weekend. The 39-time winner in the Cup series has two victories at the 1.5-mile oval along with seven top-five and 13 top-10 finishes.
· His two wins came in back-to-back events (2012 fall and 2013 spring), with the 2012 race being his last victory with Jack Roush.
· He’s also started from the pole three times (2005, 2013, 2016) including the 2013 spring race where he won from the pole in his first race at Kansas for Joe Gibbs Racing. Kenseth can take more risk in non-points Clash at Daytona

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 14, 2017) – Don’t call it a comeback. We’ve been here for years.

Interstate Batteries, founding partner for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), has been here for years – more than 25 years to be exact. This weekend, the brand will kick off its 26th season with JGR as part of Saturday night’s Advanced Auto Parts Clash at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. It will be the first time in 12 years that the brand will be part of the event that serves as the unofficial season opener to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

And the company is doing it in a big way, serving as the primary sponsor of the No. 20 JGR Toyota Camry entry and driver Matt Kenseth.

As the “Official Battery of JGR,” Interstate Batteries has been powering the championship-winning organization since 1992. The brand has been a sponsor on the No. 18 JGR Toyota with driver Kyle Busch for select Cup Series races during the last nine NASCAR seasons but has not made a start in the annual Clash at Daytona since 2005. Prior to that, the brand had appeared on the No. 18 JGR entry with 2000 Cup Series champ Bobby Labonte, who made 10 straight starts in the Clash from 1994 to 2005 as the driver of the Interstate Batteries car.

While Interstate Batteries is making its return to the Clash this weekend, Kenseth is aiming to improve upon an already impressive resume at the “World Center of Racing.”

The winner of the 2015 edition of the Clash, Kenseth will make his 11th start in the non-points event Saturday night when he jumps behind the wheel of the No. 20 Interstate Batteries Toyota. When the 2003 Cup Series Champ scored the victory in the Clash two years ago, he did so in fairly convincing fashion, leading 21 of the 75 laps run after starting 16th. In addition to the win, Kenseth’s stats in the Clash feature three top-five finishes and six top-10s with 53 laps led and an average finish of 9.5.

And while he only has one win in the Clash, Kenseth is no stranger to victory lane at Daytona.

He is a two-time winner of the iconic Daytona 500, winning the 2009 and 2012 editions of the Great American Race. In 34 career starts during points-paying races at the superspeedway, the Wisconsin-native has led at least one lap in 19 different races for a total of 362 laps led. In addition to the two Daytona 500 wins, Kenseth’s record at Daytona includes six top-fives and 14 top-10 finishes.

The 2017 season is Kenseth’s 18th as a full-time driver in NASCAR’s elite series. Like Interstate Batteries, he’s been here for years and his goals are the same – to score wins and be in the hunt for a Cup Series championship when the season ends in November. That effort begins in earnest this weekend at Daytona.

“Obviously, it’s an honor to have Intestate Batteries on the car this weekend. One of the things you learn when you work for Joe Gibbs Racing is how important Interstate Batteries is to the team. Coach Joe is very proud of that sponsorship, the relationship and the fact that they have been together since the very beginning. Probably one of the more interesting things about the partnership is the relationship between Coach and Norm Miller. It really goes beyond a regular business arrangement.”

This will be your 11th start in the Clash at Daytona. What does it mean to be a part of that event?
“As a kid, I always remember watching the Clash because it was the first racing thing that came on TV in Wisconsin over the winter. There was always snow on the ground up there, of course, but that was always the first race to come on the TV, and that got me excited for the race season. To me, Daytona Beach looked like it was a million miles away and I always looked forward to watching that race every year.”

How does the Clash impact the overall experience that is Speedweeks at Daytona?
“The Clash is such a fun way to kick off Speedweeks and it has been one of my favorite races to watch. The racing season always starts in such a unique way down in Daytona with the Clash, and then how we set the starting line-up for the Daytona 500. We end up getting a lot of practice in, as well as some racing scenarios, before we even get to the 500. The Clash allows teams to go out there and just fight for a win to start off the year. Since it’s a non-points race, you can typically take a bit more risk. It’s a chance to try out different lines and moves, as well as a chance to learn how our new Camrys will handle in race conditions. It’s a fun race because everyone is just racing to grab a win.

Richmond Betting Preview: 2016 Federated Auto Parts 400

Joe Gibbs Racing has been incredible at Richmond.

LAS VEGAS -- Saturday night's Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway will be the last chance for a few drivers to dance as the race ends the 26-race regular season before the 10-race Chase, or playoffs start. Think of it in terms like the college basketball conference tournaments where lesser teams can play their way into the NCAA Tournament by simply winning out.

Four drivers are vying for the three open positions and up to 17 drivers are eligible to qualify if they win which is going to make for some intense racing on the flat 3/4-mile layout throughout the field.

"The second Richmond race each year is especially intense just because you know that there’s a lot on the line," said three-time Richmond winner Kevin Harvick, who leads the series in points and qualified for the Chase a long time ago. "There are a lot of people racing for different things. It’s the end of our regular season. If you’re not in the Chase, it’s your last chance to win a race. There are some guys who will probably be fighting for points spots as you go in there, but Richmond is kind of your perfect short track. It has good speed, a short-track feel to it, and the tires wear out. That’s kind of what we all grew up racing on. It’s got a little bit of everything and that makes it a fun place to race."

Some drivers like Chase Elliott, who sits comfortably in the 14th slot with a 25-point cushion on 17th-place Ryan Newman, will play it safe and just look to finish well and stay out of trouble. He would love to get his first career win this week, but making the playoffs is more important at this juncture.

Austin Dillon, sitting 15th, only has a 16-point lead over Newman and knows he could be in jeopardy of falling back just because of his track history where he's averaged a 24.2 finish in five career starts, including his career-best of 20th in the April race.

"Our mindset and our goal is to just do whatever it takes to make it into the Chase for the Sprint Cup," said Dillon. "It would be huge to make it. It’s a big boost of confidence and that’s what we all do it for."

Newman has a 2003 Richmond win to his credit along with 16 top-10s and an 11.7 average finish over 29 starts. That's some pretty strong stuff over time while driving for three different teams. He's currently 100/1 odds at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook to win the Sprint Cup and in 2014 he was a few laps from winning it all without even winning a race that season. His consistency makes him a candidate to do well in the Chase format.

Jamie McMurray currently has a seven-point lead in 16th over Newman, and like Dillon, Richmond hasn't been his best track with a 20th-place average in 27 starts. However, he's finished fourth there three times in his last six starts. He also got a solid sixth-place finish at New Hampshire in July, which is relevant because of it being a flat one-mile track. You can throw Phoenix into that grouping as well with the thought process being if a driver is good one one of those tracks, they'll be good on the other because the set-ups are similar.

McMurray can look at his New Hampshire result and feel good that last years sixth-place finisher at New Hampshire in July, Matt Kenseth, won at Richmond in the same situation. This year, Carl Edwards finished second at Phoenix in March and then won the April race at Richmond. They're all correlated, and it's not to say McMurray will win -- I wouldn't bet him, but he should have confidence of finishing well.

Matt Kenseth: “Everyone likes to compare Sonoma and Watkins Glen since they’re the only two road courses that we run in a year, but they couldn’t be any more different from each other. Sonoma has always been a challenge for me because it’s very slow and technical where it’s hard to pass at. Road courses lately, with the restarts being two-wide, has become some of the most aggressive racing that we do all year. Sonoma is one of my most challenging tracks on the circuit as far as finishes and stats go, but I always look to go out there and improve every race. I’ve qualified well a bunch of times, but I’ve just never been able to figure out how to put an entire race together at Sonoma. It’s a beautiful part of the country though, and I enjoy going there, but I just need to continue to work on giving my team the feedback they need throughout the weekend.”

Jason Ratcliff: “The challenge about Sonoma involves quite a few things in order to put together a successful day. Pit strategy is important because it is tough to pass at Sonoma. For us on the 20 team, they just haven’t lately even though we’ve qualified pretty well with Matt (Kenseth) out there over the last few years. When you race at Sonoma, the toughest thing is just sticking to your plan. I mean if you look at Daytona this past February, we were leading the race and took the white flag, and you figure that there’s always a wreck on the last lap, and they never wrecked. So you just can never plan for that. You just need to go out and race as hard as you can, and try to positions yourself as far towards the front as you can, hopefully even leading where hopefully whenever there is a wreck that it’s behind you. The draft is always changing and depends on where the other cars are and what lane they’re in, what cars your car works well with, and where the momentum is. It’s all about learning to adapt to that changing draft in order to have your car in the right place at the right time.”

For the most part of the race, we have had someone that will follow us in the draft if we need it, since we have a few friends out there. Kyle Busch favored in Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol

Joey Logano might be best candidate to slow Kyle Busch's current roll.

The red hot Kyle Busch opened as the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook's 5-to-1 favorite to win Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Busch has swept the past two weekends of NASCAR races at Martinsville and Texas and is tied for the most Bristol wins among active drivers with five.

Let's take a look at all the drivers odds and how they've fared on the world's fastest half-mile track:

NASCAR at Bristol betting odds

KYLE BUSCH 5/1 - He's got an 11.9 average finish in 21 starts, which include five wins, but his last win came in 2011, a span of eight races. Last fall he led the most laps (192) before settling for eighth-place. He's led 1,703 laps at Bristol, which is tops among active drivers. The easy favorite to win this week because of past history, and also recent history of winning four NASCAR races in eight days. The Vegas kid is on hot roll.

“I’m not exactly sure what makes me so good at Bristol," said Busch. "I’ve just had a lot of success there, but I’ve also had some misfortune there, too. Ever since I got through my rookie year, I’ve just taken a liking to the place. But, when they changed the track to this current surface in 2007, I just really took to it even more."

KEVIN HARVICK 6/1 - He was runner-up last fall and led the most laps (192) in the spring before finishing 38th. His only win came in 2005 under the old Bristol layout. His second-place finish in August was his first top-five there since 2008, and fifth overall there in 30 starts. His stats show he was much better at Bristol prior to the repaving in 2007 which gave the track multiple grooves.

JOEY LOGANO 6/1 - He's won two of the past three Bristol races and is searching for his first win of 2016 after leading the series with six last season. Track history shows that select drivers win in bunches — 12 drivers have won consecutive races — and he fits the criteria. He should be expected to start well too since he leads active drivers with a 7.9 average start position.

JIMMIE JOHNSON 7/1 - He finished second last spring and fourth in the fall, but didn't lead a lap in either. His lone win came in 2010 and has a 14.1 average finish in 28 starts. If he leads 120 more laps, he'll be the ninth driver in NASCAR history to lead 18,000 laps for a career.

MATT KENSETH 7/1 - Since 2005, when NASCAR's loop data began, he's had the top driver rating (102.5), top average running position (10.897) and most laps in the top-15 (79.9 percent) at Bristol. Last spring he won for the fourth time at Bristol and did it from the pole. It was the 23rd time in 110 Bristol races (20.9%) that the pole winner has won.

Matt Kenseth: “Dover is just really unique since it’s a high-banked one-mile race track and we don’t really have any more of those around. It’s a really fast track and is really edgy, even when you’re out there by yourself, but it can get tough to pass when you get everyone out there during a race. It’s a track that you can really attack but you need to pay a lot of attention to the track changing as well as your competitors. Dover isn’t very forgiving and the elevation changes there can be challenging as well since everything can happen pretty quickly there. Dover gives me the sensation of more speed than any other track we go to and I’ve always loved that race track. We don’t have all the results there that I wish we had, but I love that track and it’s very challenging to get around there fast. I always look forward to heading to Dover.”

Jason Ratcliff: “For our JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) organization as we whole, Dover has been a really good track for us. It stands out as one of the top tracks for us overall that we seem to have gotten a bit of a handle on since we generally run well there. I like our chances going back there this weekend. I thought we had a good race going in our first race there this year. We had a few things that I felt that we needed to work on, and we were able to work on those items worked out, so I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s one of our better tracks and eventually we’re going to get one there for our DG team.”
