Edwards fastest during first Pocono practice session

Carl Edwards looking for first Pocono Top-5 since 2010.
Carl Edwards ran just one lap during Friday's lone practice session at Pocono Raceway and it was all he needed to post the fastest speed (179.802 mph) in preparation for Sunday's Axalta 400. Edwards, a two-time winner on the 2.5-mile tricky triangle, will be looking to parlay that fast lap into a nice run during Friday's qualifying (4:15 pm ET).

The practice session was delayed by 20 minutes due to fog and then was cut short due to rain rain. Dryers are on the track, but qualifying could be cancelled which would set the starting lineup by the practice times (note: they did get qualifying in). The nine fastest laps all came from drivers who attempted just one lap. Three drivers ran a session-high seven laps and 11 drivers failed to turn a lap.

Tomorrow, there's just one 55-minute practice for the day (11:30 am ET). Normally, the teams get two Saturday sessions to get the car tuned perfectly for race day. There's a 50% chance of rain Saturday so they might not even be able to get that practice in. Get up front and stay up front is the key at Pocono, so starting up front is pivotal.

One more thing. There's a 100% chance of rain Sunday.
