Stenhouse and Ford drivers top first Daytona 500 practice charts

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is either really fast or he figured out how to draft in qualifying at Daytona International Speedway.

Stenhouse led Saturday's first practice session at Daytona and was fastest overall as teams began preparing for what is expected to be a wild qualifying session for the Daytona 500. Group qualifying is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET Sunday.

Stenhouse turned the fastest lap at 202.643 mph as Ford drivers swept the top four places. Sam Hornish Jr., in his first season with Richard Petty Motorsports, was second, followed by Stenhouse teammate Trevor Bayne and Hornish teammate Aric Almirola.

Rounding out the top 10 were Dale Earnhardt Jr., Greg Biffle, Denny Hamlin, David Gilliland, Danica Patrick and Carl Edwards.
