Kyle Busch wins All-Star Race, first at Charlotte

Kyle Busch finally wins at Charlotte in the Cup Series.

CONCORD, N.C. – NASCAR has made enough modifications to the format of its All-Star race over the years to confuse a convention of accountants.

The latest debuted Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway as teams addressed another weird assignment – choose between the regular tires Goodyear has designed for CMS and a new “option” tire that is softer and, thus, temporarily faster.

Teams were able to use the option tires in one of the first three 20-lap segments or the closing 10-lap shootout. There was a wild mix of strategies, with teams choosing different stages to use the special tires and one team, that of Clint Bowyer, pulling a surprise – again, nothing new in this event -- and mixing two regular tires with two optional.
