Bowyer's best finish at Watkins Glen was fourth-place in 2012. |
Clint Bowyer was fastest during Friday's first practice session in preparation for Sunday's Cheez-it 355 at Watkins Glen International, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series final road course event of 2015. Bowyer's lap at 127.067 mph was turned on his 14th and final lap run in the 80-minute session.
Allmendinger is the only driver among the top-five fastest to have won at Watkins Glen. The track remains one of four in the series Johnson has never won at. Hornish Jr. being fast shouldn't be a surprise since former
Richard Petty Motorsports driver Marcos Ambrose drove the No. 9 to victory twice at the Glen and finished second last season. Hornish's best finish himself was fifth in 2010.
Rounding out the top-10 quickest drivers in the session were Paul Menard (125.713 mph), David Ragan (125.528), Brad Keselowski (125.419), Kyle Busch (125.121) and Austin Dillon (125.074). Busch is looking for his third win on the track and a sweep of the road course season, a feat he accomplished in 2008.
Final practice for the teams will be later this afternoon from 4:30 p.m. – 5:55 pm ET on NBCSN. The teams will qualify on Saturday at 1:115 pm ET.
