Busch is looking good heading into the Chase |
A year later, he clinched a spot in the 2013 Chase for the Sprint Cup with a win at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday night. Busch, who missed last year's Chase, climbed to fifth in the standings and became one of seven drivers to clinch a spot in the 12-driver Chase field, which will be set following next week's race at Richmond.
"This is a heckuva lot different than 365 days ago," Busch said in victory lane.
One just one race left before the Chase, the 500-mile race had huge implications on the playoff race.
Joey Logano, who led the most laps, climbed to eighth in points and solidified his Chase hopes with a runnerup finish. Martin Truex Jr., meanwhile, also helped his chances with a gutsy third-place finish despite racing with a broken wrist.
Kurt Busch also moved back into the Chase picture, climbing to 10th in points by finishing fourth.
Rounding out the top 10 in the race were Ryan Newman, Jeff Gordon, Juan Pablo Montoya, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and Brian Vickers.
