SONOMA, Calif.—Clint Bowyer took up right where he left off last year at Sonoma Raceway.

Bowyer, who won last year’s Sprint Cup race in the Napa Valley, was fastest during the final practice Friday at the 1.99-mile road course.

Bowyer was fast throughout three hours of practice, but set the early pace in the final session and stayed atop the speed chart with an average speed of 94.556 mph.

Jamie McMurray was second at 94.422. Rounding out the top 10 were: Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Juan Pablo Montoya, Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Marcos Ambrose, Joey Logano and Jeff Gordon. Ambrose won the pole for last year’s race.

The speeds from the first practice session set the order for qualifying Saturday, which will feature groups of five or six drivers going onto the track at the same time.

Ambrose and Montoya topped the first practice session as Ambrose, Montoya, Bowyer and Busch each took a turn atop the leader board.

Rounding out the top 10 in the first practice were: Casey Mears, Kurt Busch, Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle, Brad Keselowski, Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr. and Joey Logano.
