Another New Track for the NASCAR Cup Series

· This event will mark the 12th season of NASCAR racing at Road America, but it will be the first for the NCS since 1956. The Xfinity Series has made Elkhart Lake a stop on its circuit since 2010.

· The Cup stars are on track for the first time Saturday for a 50-minute practice session at 12:35 p.m. ET, with qualifying set for raceday morning at 11:05 a.m. ET.

Buescher at Road America

· Buescher heads into the weekend with some prior experience at Road America, with two races under his belt in the Xfinity Series.

· He finished 18th in 2014 in the No. 60, and backed that up with a ninth-place run the following year after starting sixth.

· Thus far on road courses in 2021, Buescher has finishes of 11th (Daytona), 13th (COTA) and 16th (Sonoma). Overall he has 16 starts on road courses in the NCS.

Luke Lambert at Road America

· Lambert also heads into the weekend with at least a race in his past at Road America, having served as crew chief for Elliott Sadler in 2012. The duo finished 15th after starting 13th in the No. 2 machine.

· Overall in the NCS, Lambert has 21 starts on road courses with three top-10s and an average finish of 19th.

Buescher on racing at Road America:

“This weekend is yet another opportunity for our team to rebound as the playoff picture gets ever tighter. Thankfully I’ve had some experience there prior in the Xfinity Series years ago, and that combined with our crew chiefs’ past should give us a good base to start from. Last Time Out
Buescher finished 20th in the first of two races at Pocono last weekend, earning himself the pole for Sunday’s race. He went on to finish 19th in that event.

Buescher at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

· Buescher makes his ninth Cup start at Las Vegas on Sunday, where he carries an average finish of 17.2 with one top-10, which came in his most recent outing there last fall.

· In that event, Buescher started 16th but powered to a top-10 in the 400-mile race – one of his eight top-10 finishes in the 2020 season.

· Buescher also ran 14th in the spring race a year ago, one of his four overall top-15s at the 1.5-mile track.

· Buescher had two Xfinity starts at Vegas with a best finish of ninth in 2014 under Scott Graves. A year later the duo went on to finish 14th in the 2015 race.

Luke Lambert at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

· Lambert will call his 12th Cup race at LVMS on Sunday, where he has an average finish of 13.5 with four top-10 finishes.

· In 11 prior starts, Lambert has top result of third, which came with Ryan Newman in 2015. He led Buescher to the ninth-place run last fall, and his 13.5 average finish stands as the best of any track on the circuit in his 10-year stint as a crew chief.

· Lambert also called one Xfinity Series event for Elliott Sadler in 2012, finishing third after starting on the pole.

Buescher on racing at Las Vegas:

“Vegas is another opportunity for our team and organization to prove what we’re capable of. While it’s different from Homestead in many ways, it carries a lot of speed and is a place we felt good about after finishing ninth last fall. We’re excited for the opportunity come Sunday, and look forward to another solid day in the Fastenal Ford.”

Last Time Out
Buescher was the talk of the afternoon last Sunday in Homestead, ultimately finishing 19th after winning the opening stage, earning a playoff point and leading 57 laps.

· Buescher passed 11 cars in the opening 53 laps before taking the lead, one he would hold for 57 laps, marking more than he led any prior season in his Cup career.

· It also marked the most laps led for any RFR car on an intermediate track since Carl Edwards paced the field for 68 laps at Atlanta in 2013.

· Buescher took the green-checkered stage one in the lead, marking his second stage win (Talladega last fall). He went on to finish sixth in the second stage, earning a career-high 15 stage points.

Who will win the two 2020 Duels at Daytona?

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wants to win the Duel for new team, period.

This race means a lot more to a few drivers than it does the favorites trying to be conservative and not wreck their car. It could be a race from start to finish winning by the same driver. It's still a crapshoot, but I'll have action on several drivers just because of the lack of real importance from favored drivers in this race.

RETURNING TO DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY: “Daytona (International Speedway) is always interesting,” Allmendinger said. “You go there to start the season with the biggest race of the year, and I think we really put our Kroger ClickList Camaro ZL1 in a good position for a portion of the race, running up front. Then you get back in July and it’s hot, it’s slick, it’s still the same kind of racing, but I think handling is more important because the track gets so slick with the warmer temperatures. It’s one of those races where anything can happen because it’s a superspeedway. We’ve had good success there. I’ve felt like I’ve put myself in positions to win the race there. I feel like it really kicks off the summer months, and in a way can set the tone for how we approach several of the hot racetracks in July and how the weekends will go. It’s always an important race and I’m looking forward to our Kroger ClickList Camaro ZL1 up front under the lights.”

RACING AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY: “I’m excited to get back to Daytona (International Speedway),” Buescher said. “We had a really good showing there to start off the season in the Daytona 500 and I feel like it’s a place that we’ve been focusing on trying to work together with AJ (Allmendinger) and have a gentle clean Kleenex Wet Wipes Camaro ZL1 that we can race at the end. It’s going to be way hotter this time around, even though it’s a night race. Kleenex was on the hood of our Camaro ZL1 for the Daytona 500, and we’ll go out there and see if we can get to the front and survive. I think superspeedway racing has really changed a lot in the last five years. Drivers have taken it from a luck and guessing game to a definite skill set. I’m still learning a lot of that as we go, and every race we go and work to get a little bit better at that. Daytona was good to us in February, and I’m excited to get back and improve on that this weekend in the Coke Zero Sugar 400.”

Pocono Betting Preview: 2017 Pocono 400

Buescher paid out at 1,000-to-1 in Las Vegas, most ever in NASCAR.

Last years two races on the 2.5-mile tricky triangle produced a couple of juicy payouts for bettors at the sports books, including the one in the fall which was an all-time NASCAR record in Las Vegas.

Thanks to a rain out out and a thick sheet of fog settling over the front stretch and turns, Chris Buescher in an underfunded car with fumes remaining in fuel tank was able to get the win paying at 1,000/1 odds. He's 500/1 this week.

In this race last season Kurt Busch opened at 20/1 odds and closed at 12/1 after showing well in the final practices. He had overcome all kinds of issues, but managed to win for the third time on the most unique track on the circuit.

“Just the fact that it’s different in the way that each of the straightaways has its different length, the corners have their banking," Kurt Busch said earlier this week about what he likes about likes about Pocono. "It’s not a typical oval in that you don't get to shift at an oval track. It blends a lot of road-racing techniques into an oval technique.”

Each of three Pocono corners get flatter along the way from 14 degrees in turn one down to six degrees in the tight turn three, which is where many try to be set up the best for and make passes.
