RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES:

What are your thoughts on racing at Martinsville and it being the first race in the Eliminator Round?

“Martinsville Speedway is a fun track to drive when you have a car that allows you to look out the front window. If you are spending too much time looking in the mirror and can’t get in the corner, you are going to have a nightmare of a day. Looking at where this race lands in the Chase, all of the races are equally important when you do the math. There are outside, situational circumstances like a wreck that you can be involved in. That applies to any track but I think Martinsville has a higher potential for a wreck to happen in comparison to some of the 1.5-mile tracks we go to for example. Obviously, you never know what’s going to happen. So we’ll just have to wait and see and hope for the best. We had a decent test at Martinsville last week that answered some of the questions we had so I hope we can be one of those teams up front and in contention for the win.”

What was it like to win at Martinsville in 2012?
“It was one of those deals where you have to keep yourself in contention. I was fifth after getting two tires on a restart. I got a pretty good launch and I was going to dive underneath Clint Bowyer and he blocked me so we made contact into Turn 1. In the end, it collected three cars and gave me the lead. We had another good restart and ended up winning the race. It was awesome for me and it was awesome to get that grandfather clock and know that you are a part of NASCAR history at Martinsville Speedway forever. It was really special.”
