Earnhardt Jr. searching for his first top-10 finish at Sonoma

Road Courses have not been Junior's thing; no top-10s at Sonoma
Sprint Cup drivers typically equate running well with having fun.

For Dale Earnhardt Jr., that won’t be his approach at Sonoma Raceway this time.

Earnhardt has no career top-10 finishes at the track, a road course where he also was burned in a scary fire while racing a Corvette in 2004.

Don’t take that, though, to mean that Earnhardt hates the track. He just doesn’t run well on the tight, narrow circuit that requires precision.

The fact that he has two wins this year and is in the Chase for the Sprint Cup as long as he shows up each week means that he can go to Sonoma and race and not worry about where he finishes.

“It’s a fun place to race and if you just forget about investing your emotions in it and how well you want to finish and just go out there and drive, you end up having a good time,” Earnhardt said. “You can’t be upset at what happens at the end because a lot of stuff happens at the end and you might be part of it. I enjoy it.”
