Jeff Gordon wins at Dover for first time since 2001

Jeff Gordon flexed his muscles in the championship race Sunday, while Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne survived a wild scramble to advance to Round 2 of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Gordon won the third race of the Chase at Dover International Speedway, his fourth victory of the season. Kahne, meanwhile, finished 20th, but rallied from four laps down to earn the final transfer spot in the Chase.

Kahne wound up two points ahead of AJ Allmendinger to finish the first round 12th in the standings. The top 12 drivers advance to the second round.

Allmendinger, Kurt Busch, Greg Biffle and Aric Almirola were all eliminated from the 16-driver field.

Gordon passed Brad Keselowski for the lead on Lap 306 and cruised to the win. Keselowski, who won the Chase opener at Chicagoland Speedway, finished second, followed by Jimmie Johnson,Joey Logano, Matt Kenseth and Kyle Larson.
