2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards returns to Las Vegas

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 8, 2016) – Whoever wears the crown of ‘NASCAR champion’ unquestionably will earn it, following a 2016 season that has already featured some of the toughest and most thrilling competition the sport has ever seen. The year-end celebration will be deservedly grand, and it will take place at familiar sites built upon major moments.

Continuing a fan-favorite culmination to its national series seasons, NASCAR announced today the return of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards to Las Vegas and the 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Awards to Miami Beach.

Carrying on a tradition that started in 2009, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards will return to Wynn Las Vegas on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016. The sport’s premier series will regale its champion in a week-long celebration that offers NASCAR fans interactive entertainment, access to the sport’s biggest stars and appearances from an assortment of musical and celebrity guests. A full lineup of activities for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week will be announced at a later date.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Awards will take place Monday, Nov. 21 at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel located in the heart of South Beach. This year’s event will honor the champions of the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, both of whom will be crowned during the Homestead-Miami Speedway race weekend, November 18-20.

Currently, two NASCAR Next graduates – Daniel Suárez and William Byron – lead the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points, having locked up their respective spots in the Chase with stirring victories. Both captured their first NASCAR national series victory in 2016.

"Las Vegas and Miami are unrivaled when it comes to hosting premier events," said Steve Phelps, NASCAR executive vice president and chief marketing officer. "Both cities were built upon big events and major celebrations, and we’re thrilled to once again honor our NASCAR national series champions along the Vegas strip and on South Beach."

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards will air on NBCSN on Dec. 2 beginning at 9 p.m. ET. MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Channel 90, will carry the awards show live. The NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Awards will air on NBCSN on Nov. 27 starting at 8 p.m. ET.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 3, 2013) – Jimmie Johnson’s four-day, Las Vegas whirlwind odyssey has begun. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week™ in Las Vegas officially is underway.

The six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™ champion’s rounds of Las Vegas media outlets began early Tuesday with interviews with a pair of top-rated rock and country music radio stations; CBS, FOX and Univision television outlets; MRN Radio and the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The FOX studio boasts a NASCAR-themed slot machine, at which celebrities are invited to try their luck – all in the name of charity. Johnson hit a $250 jackpot to which he added $300 for donation to the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Johnson also participated in a Q&A session at the 2013 NASCAR Motorsports Marketing Forum and then visited the iconic “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign at the south end of the famed Las Vegas Strip where he signed autographs for waiting fans.

Tuesday’s activities wound down with a round of photos and the annual Champion’s Dinner with NASCAR President Mike Helton and others. The action-packed week culminates with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards™ (Dec. 6, with FOX Sports 2 and NASCAR.com providing coverage beginning at 9 p.m. ET; Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90 at 8 p.m. ET).

It’s been three years since Johnson celebrated a championship in Las Vegas although as a Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup™ contender he attended the 2011-12 ceremonies. That obviously motivated Johnson to return to the head table – which he’s now done six times.

“Winning races does it all,” he told NASCAR Motorsports Marketing Forum attendees. “That is my focus and my brand. What is next, (that’s) what keeps you motivated.”

That Johnson is one championship away from matching the record seven NASCAR Sprint Cup titles won by NASCAR Hall of Famers Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt figured prominently in questions Johnson fielded during the day’s events.

He admitted to still being a bit overwhelmed by his success.

“I never could have dreamed this big; when I hear my name mentioned alongside Petty and Earnhardt,” he said. “It still feels surreal.”

Champion’s Week activities for Johnson began Monday in Los Angeles where the Californian visited the FOX Sports campus. He appeared on FOX Sports 1’s FOX Sports Live and taped segments with The OT and UFC Tonight, the latter slated to air at 7 p.m. ET, on Wednesday, Dec. 4. A sit-down interview with FOX’s Curt Menefee also will be broadcast at a later date.

Before flying to Los Angeles, Johnson and his crew chief Chad Knaus visited the corporate headquarters of the No. 48 team’s sponsor Lowe’s in Mooresville, N.C., where they presented the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship trophy to a large crowd of associates.

Wednesday, Dec. 4

·        Fanfest Presented by Las Vegas Motor Speedway: The fifth annual LVMS Fanfest will again be held at the Fremont Street Experience, and begin at 1:30 p.m. with the arrival of the 13 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers. This event is free to the public and will consist of a red carpet walk by the 13 drivers, followed by a special “game show format” on-stage event featuring the drivers. Race fans will have the chance to win two tickets to the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards to be held two nights later at Wynn Las Vegas.

·        Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award Reception: This year’s finalists for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award will be honored at a reception at Wynn Las Vegas from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. The NASCAR Foundation will announce the award winner during this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards on Friday, Dec. 6. Thursday, Dec. 5

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards, the culmination of Champion’s Week, will feature the NASCAR Fan Reception, Red Carpet Walk, celebrity guests, music and entertainment. Penske Says He'll Give Stewart Indy 500 Car if He Wants One

If Tony Stewart wants to run the Indianapolis 500 next season, Roger Penske will give him a car.

Penske twice Friday night offered Stewart the chance to enter next year's race and insisted he's serious about the opportunity.

"Where's Stewart?" Penske asked during his speech accepting the Sprint Cup trophy during NASCAR's season-ending awards ceremony. "How about doing the double at Indy this year? You available?"

The banquet room at Wynn Las Vegas Resort broke out into laughter, but Penske later insisted he was serious.

"If he wants to do the double, I'd put him in it," Penske said. "We've talked about it before. I guess I made it official tonight."

Stewart was not immediately available for comment.

Penske-owned cars have won the Indianapolis 500 15 different times, but not since Helio Castroneves' 2009 victory.

The Indy 500 is Stewart's favorite race, but he has not entered it since 2001.

NASCAR's three-time champion twice attempted to run both the Indy 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day: In 1999, he was ninth at Indy and fourth at Charlotte, and in 2001, he was sixth at Indy and third at Charlotte.

He hasn't tried Indianapolis since, and has seemingly let go of his childhood dream of winning the 500. He has twice won the Brickyard 400, NASCAR's race at storied Indy.

2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champions Week Schedule

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 26, 2012) — NASCAR® will return to Las Vegas for the postseason NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week™ — a star-studded, entertainment-filled celebration for the series champion and NASCAR fans, culminating with the highly anticipated NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards™. Earlier this year, NASCAR announced the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards — and all of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week — will return to Las Vegas for the next three years.

Since 2009, the awards have been held at Wynn Las Vegas and have grown in stature and prestige with each passing year. This year’s annual awards will take place Nov. 30, returning to Wynn Las Vegas with SPEED, Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio providing live coverage, beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

As in past years, fans can expect an exciting interactive week of activities that celebrate the 2012 season and also build excitement for the 2013 season ahead. Among the events this year are the NASCAR National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) Myers Brothers Awards Luncheon, the annual event, where drivers and teams collect a number of year-end awards and accolades; NASCAR Victory Lap™ down the world-famous Las Vegas Strip; and NASCAR After The Lap™, an anything-goes Q&A session between fans and the top 12 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup™ drivers. Last year’s NASCAR After The Lap event provided one of the highlights of the week — an impromptu break dancing demonstration by four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion™ Jeff Gordon.

For the fourth-consecutive year, fans will join drivers, team owners and industry leaders in celebrating the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion™ at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards. Approximately 300 tickets are available to fans, which are being distributed by tracks, NASCAR partners and teams through various fan promotions. Tickets will offer fans access to the following NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week experiences:
· NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards Luncheon;
· NASCAR After The Lap;
· Fan reception and red carpet walk prior to the awards; and the
· NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards.

Tuesday – Wednesday, Nov. 27–28
· NASCAR 2012 Motorsports Marketing Forum: The 13th annual NASCAR Motorsports Marketing
Forum, presented by SportsBusiness Journal/Daily, is the motorsports industry’s most comprehensive business forum. · NASCAR Live: Motor Racing Network’s third annual champion’s edition of “NASCAR Live” with Eli Gold will be held at Wynn Las Vegas Race and Sports Book Tuesday, Nov. 27, starting at 4 p.m. Gold will spend the hour with the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, taking calls and answering questions from the live audience.

Tuesday – Saturday, Nov. 27–Dec. 1
· NASCAR Pit Stop Tour: The Pit Stop Tour consists of Official Partner show cars featured in iconic locations throughout the Las Vegas strip from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. each day. · Fanfest Presented by Las Vegas Motor Speedway: The fourth annual Fanfest event will again be held on Fremont Street, and begin at 2 p.m., with the arrival of the top 12 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers. The event will consist of a red carpet walk by the 12 drivers followed by a special “game show format,” on-stage event featuring the drivers and hosted by nationally known comedian Carrot Top. Race fans will have the chance to win two tickets to the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards to be held two nights later at Wynn Las Vegas.

· Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award Reception: This year’s finalists for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award will be honored at a reception at Wynn Las Vegas from 6–7 p.m. Following, The NASCAR Foundation will announce the Award winner during this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards on Friday, Nov. 30. · Chevrolet SS Race Car Unveiled at Wynn Las Vegas: A press conference will be held, at 9:30 a.m., at the Encore Theatre at Wynn Las Vegas, to unveil the 2013 Chevrolet SS NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race car. Media attendance is encouraged; however, this event is not open to the public.

· NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards Luncheon: The annual awards luncheon and industry gathering will be held from 11 a.m.–1:15 p.m., in the Encore Ballroom at Encore Las Vegas, where several team awards will be presented. Among those awards included are the Champion Sponsor, Champion Crew Chief, Sunoco Rookie of the Year and NMPA Most Popular Driver awards.

· NASCAR Victory Lap: The green flag on fan-favorite NASCAR Victory Lap will wave at 3:30 p.m., with pre-lap festivities to begin at 3 p.m., when the top 12 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers will parade down Las Vegas Blvd. in their race cars with engines roaring. · NASCAR After The Lap: One of the premier events of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week, NASCAR After the Lap Sponsored by Ford and Coca-Cola will be held from 5–6:30 p.m., at PH LIVE located in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. · The Stewie Awards: Following NASCAR After The Lap, 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart and Matt Yocum will host the sixth annual “Stewie Awards,” a lighthearted year-in-review, which airs live on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio channel 90.

Friday, Nov. 30
· 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards: The postseason, black tie event will begin at 5 p.m. at Wynn Las Vegas, where the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion driver and owner will be crowned and the top 10 drivers in the final standings will be honored. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards, the culmination of Champion’s Week, will feature red carpet arrivals, celebrity guests, music and entertainment. SPEED, Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio will provide live coverage of the event.
