Kahne Tops The Atlanta Practice Charts in the Most Important Session

Kasey Kahne was the fastest during the first Atlanta practice session, a session that ran two hours long. With no practices scheduled for Friday, every team has to get things right today for tomorrow night's race. For the entire duration of the first practice, just about every major team ran exclusively in race trim and will use the final session for qualifying set-up. If looking for drivers to key on for the race, the first practice is where to look; treat it like we normally do for a traditional happy hour.

Drivers who ran extremely fast average speeds in 5, 10 and 15 lap segments were Denny Hamlin, Kahne, Ryan Newman, Jimmie Johnson and Paul Menard....yes, it does say Paul Menard, however it shouldn't come as too much of a shock seeing how Kahne is his teammate and how Menard did finish fifth at Atlanta during the spring.

Top-5 Atlanta Practice 1 Speeds
1) #9-Kahne 183.874
2) #2-Busch 182.868
3) #33-Bowyer 182.633
4) #31-Burton 182.422
5) #11-Hamlin 182.201
slowest: #7-Conway 173.039; #55-Bliss 173.413
