Kevin Harvick finally wins a Las Vegas Sprint Cup race

Kevin Harvick was 9/2 favorite to win at Las Vegas
Defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick won the Kobalt 400 today at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before about 90,000 fans.

The victory all but locks up Harvick’s spot in the 16-driver Chase for the Sprint Cup.

It also continued his hot start this season. Harvick finished second in each of the first two races of this season.

This was his first Las Vegas victory.

“It’s so cool to win here in Las Vegas,” Harvick said. “To start this West Coast swing this way is pretty awesome.” (LVRJ.com)



Kevin Harvick wins at Las Vegas: #29-Kevin Harvick won the Kobalt 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for his 1st win of the season, 1st win at LVMS and his 29th career win. Harvick has won at least one race in six straight seasons. Harvick has won or finished 2nd in six straight races and has won four times in the last nine races.

#78-Truex Jr. finished 2nd followed by #31-Newman, #88-Earnhardt Jr., #11-Hamlin, #47-Allmendinger, #2-Keselowski, #42-Larson, #20-Kenseth and #22-Logano.

Harvick led the most laps of the race with 142 and took the Chase points lead, 9 points over #88-Earnhardt Jr.

Pole winner #24-Gordon, was in a backup car and had to start from the rear of the field. Gordon ran into the rear of #26-Burton during the race doing damage to the nose, but recovered to finish 18th, leading one lap.

There were 18 lead changes among 9 drivers. There were 6 cautions for 28 yellow flag laps. (Jayski.com)
